For Founders · Stage 01

Get the foundations right.

Pre-seed and early stage. Validate the idea, build the first version, and put the foundations — product, story, and structure — in place before you raise or scale.

The cheapest mistakes to fix are the ones you catch before anyone is watching.

The earliest decisions are the most expensive to unwind. We help you get them right while they're still cheap.

Validation, a first real build, and clean foundations — so everything after compounds instead of cracking.

What it is

Where you are, and how we help.

The earliest stage is where the most expensive mistakes get quietly baked in — a product built before it's validated, a cap table that haunts every future round, a story that doesn't survive contact with a sharp investor. Readiness is about getting the foundations right while they remain cheap to get right, so that everything built on top of them compounds rather than cracks.

We help you establish whether there is a real company here at all, build the first working version, and set the foundations — the early product, the positioning, the basic financial and legal structure, and a credible plan. It draws on Consulting's Innovation and Build groups, scaled honestly to an early-stage budget and pace rather than billed like a corporate engagement.

And if the idea is strong enough, Readiness is also the doorway into Cofoundry — where, instead of merely advising, we co-found and build it with you. Either way, you leave this stage holding something real, not a plan to make something real.

What you get

What we help with.

Idea validation

Cheap, fast tests that tell you whether there is a real company here — before the expensive commitment.

First build / MVP

A working first version, built lean — something real to take to users and investors, not a mockup.

Positioning & story

The early narrative that makes you legible to customers and to capital, in plain language.

Foundational structure

The basic financial and legal foundations — entity, cap table hygiene, the things that won't haunt you later.

A credible plan

The milestones and the path that get you to the next stage, framed the way a sharp investor reads them.

A door into co-building

If the idea deserves it, a path into Cofoundry to build the company together rather than alone.

Why it matters

Why this stage decides the rest.

A surprising share of a company's eventual trajectory is set in its first few months — in choices made quickly, under pressure, with little information. Validate the wrong thing and you build a beautiful answer to a question nobody asked. Get the structure wrong and you spend the next two years and a chunk of your equity unwinding it. The leverage at this stage is enormous, and almost entirely invisible until later.

That is exactly why a partner who has seen the pattern many times is worth more here than anywhere — not to slow you down, but to make sure the speed is pointed in the right direction. We help you move fast on the things that are reversible and carefully on the few that aren't.

Questions, answered

The things founders ask first.

I just have an idea — is it too early for you?

Not at all. Validation is the right first step and far cheaper than building the wrong thing. We'll help you learn fast whether there's a company here.

Can you build my MVP?

Yes — lean and real, scaled to an early budget. And if it deserves it, Cofoundry can co-found and build the company with you.

Why bother with structure this early?

Because early structural mistakes are the most expensive to unwind later. A little foundation now spares you a great deal of pain at the raise.

What do I leave this stage with?

Something real — a validated idea, a first build, and the foundations and plan to raise or scale from with confidence.
